I have been getting into this idea of spirit animals lately, mainly because of how Mistress has entered my dreams in various animal forms. And my own journey into D/s has made me manifest different animals as I have felt and experienced things in her presence.
The other day Mistress and I were chit-chatting about people, and the subject of butterflies came up. She and I both don’t like the type of person one might call a butterfly. Indeed, the whole idea of being fey and flitting about, being inconstant, is a visceral turn off.
I read a post from one of the bloggers I follow, A Submissive Wife, and she wrote about taking a spirit animal test, and so I jumped right in. Here is her post “How to be at Peace; Finding your Spirit Animal.” I was fully expecting to find myself as one of the joyful powerful animals I have always fancied…a sleek and dangerous panther, the intelligent and playful dolphin, or more recently a skittish doe. Or even something solid and strong like a wolf or a bear. Imagine my horror when the results came in—I am a butterfly!
My first reaction is that I need to go see a genuine medium and get a second opinion. But then I started to read the butterfly as spirit animal description. Here is what it says on the site Spirit Animal dot info:
“The butterfly is one of the most emblematic totem animals symbolizing personal transformation. If you see the butterfly as your totem or spirit animal, pay attention to the areas in your life or personality that are in need of profound change or transformation. Perhaps, this animal totem guides you to be sensitive to your personal cycles of expansion and growth, as well as the beauty of life’s continuous unfolding. An important message carried by the spirit of the butterfly is about the ability to go through important changes with grace and lightness.

“What is the meaning of the butterfly? This animal totem is primarily associated with symbolism of change and transformation.
- Powerful transformation, metamorphosis in your life, personality
- Moving through different life cycles
- Renewal, rebirth
- Lightness of being, playfulness
- Elevation from earthly matters, tuning into emotional or spiritual
- The world of the soul, the psyche
A secondary meaning of the butterfly is about finding joy in life and lightness of being.”
I would be lying if this isn’t spot on. Right?
And the metaphors keep coming. I mean here I am talking about “coming out” as non-binary, and the butterfly is about metamorphosis. Here I am talking about “little space”, and let me ask you, what is a cocoon? If the Spirit Animal fits…
But Mistress, please, when I have been stripped naked and the light shines on me completely, please help to be reborn as something more fun! But in the meantime Mistress, it is very apt, no? I sure hope I live up to it!
Here is another authority (Spirit – Animals dot Com)
“People with the Butterfly totem have a gift for accepting change with grace and eloquence. They realise that the journey is their only guarantee. They know that it is their responsibility to make their way in faith. People with this spirit animal are also susceptible to the harmony of the earth. They are genuinely in tune with environmental changes.” All I can say to this is, “no wonder”…
This sounds fitting, my friend! XOXO

Tell me about it. When you begin to wonder if these tests are nonsense because you don’t like the result, but then read what it means and see how it has you pegged, well, enough said.
